The Story of Sheila Namuddu: From Pain to Prosperity

Sheila Namuddu’s story unfolds like one of those popular Nollywood movies—where a talented child is born, the mother dies, and she is left to suffer under an oppressive stepmother. In most cases, the child has a loving but clueless father who is irritatingly submissive to his new wife.

Namuddu, a native of Jinja district, lost her mother when she was five years old. Her father, James Lwanga, later married Branice, a mother of two girls, to help raise her. Lwanga (now late) could not parent alone since, as a driver for a senior politician in the area, he was always on the move.

At first, things seemed rosy, but by 2006, when Namuddu was in Senior Five, her life took a dark turn. Her stepmother became abusive, denied her time to study, and sometimes even food. The teenager was forced to do all the household chores while her two stepsisters (then aged 10 and 13) relaxed and watched movies, under the protection of their cunning mother.

After completing her Senior Six, Namuddu got a job as a mobile money agent in Kampala in 2008. Her stepmother was never happy with her progress and spread false rumors to her father, claiming that Namuddu had secured the job by sleeping with the business owner. Despite the hostility, Namuddu remained focused on her future.

A New Beginning in Love

In 2009, a male client walked into her kiosk, and they instantly clicked—it was love at first sight! The two started dating, but Branice’s hatred grew even stronger.

"She would constantly murmur that she wished her eldest daughter was the one dating Philip," Namuddu recalled.

Philip, now her husband, is a businessman in Kampala. Despite being warned by friends not to pay university fees for a lover, Philip supported Namuddu’s education. In 2010, he enrolled her in university, and in 2013, she successfully graduated.

Their marriage was formalized in 2015, but when they started trying for children, nothing happened.

"We really tried, but nothing came of it. We went for medical check-ups, but the doctors found no problem with our reproductive systems," she said.

Seeking Answers and Finding Hope

When Namuddu’s father passed away in mid-2017, a family friend who had heard about her struggles approached her during the funeral. In a rare but bold move, she advised Namuddu to contact renowned native doctor Masunga at +256 769 678458

For years, Namuddu had also suffered from disturbing dreams, where unknown men would appear to her in inappropriate ways. Despite being deeply in love with Philip, these dreams made her uncomfortable.

She and Philip decided to seek help from Dr. Masunga, who revealed that her stepmother had used dark magic to curse her womb out of hatred.

"He assured me that he could reverse the curse. He gave me special medicine to use for a month, and it worked like a charm. By September 2017, I was pregnant, and in May 2018, I gave birth to a healthy baby boy!" she narrated joyfully.

Karma Strikes Back

Back in Jinja, Branice started experiencing recurrent paralysis on the left side of her body. She attempted several times to reach Namuddu and beg for forgiveness. Eventually, she confessed that she had visited an evil spiritualist in an attempt to destroy Namuddu’s life.

"As someone who doesn’t believe in revenge, I traveled home in August 2019, and we made peace. Just last week, she called me to say her health has greatly improved," Namuddu concluded.
